PE

At Frome Valley First School we aim to…

  • Provide a high-quality, broad and balanced PE education that engages children in physical education through a wide range of physical activity which will enhance life-long fitness and life choices.
  • Provide all pupils with the opportunity to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness, promoting a healthy lifestyle.
  • Develop positive attitudes and perseverance to physical challenge.
  • Provide opportunities for all children to take part in competitive sport and activities, embedding our school values.

At Frome Valley First School, our PE is taught through the ‘Real PE’ Scheme. This is a cohesive curriculum which is used from Reception to Year 4, with the main focus on progressively developing our children’s fundamental movement skills.  In lessons, children access a broad range of opportunities to extend their agility, balance and coordination, both individually and with others. They engage in competitive (both against self and others) and cooperative physical activities in a range of increasingly challenging situations. Within lessons, children are encouraged to cultivate other positive learning behaviours such as coaching and supporting others, working as a team and persevering – one of our school values.

In addition to high-quality lessons, we also employ a range of coaches to enrich the children’s experiences even further, including coaches in skateboarding, cricket, dance and Relax Kids. Two members of staff are also Forest School trained and each class will have half a term of Forest School sessions throughout the year.

At Frome Valley First School, we see physical activity as more than just directed P.E. lessons. We strive to offer all children plentiful opportunities to engage in physical play, especially at break and lunchtimes.

We offer a wide range of after school sports clubs and those in receipt of Pupil Premium are offered free places in all of these clubs.
