Year 3 Trip to Dorchester Museum
It was an amazing day!
Year 3 went to The Dorset Museum in Dorchester. We started off by looking at a human timeline from the present day going all the way back to 400, 000 years ago! We handled real Stone Age tools, including hand axes, scrapers and arrow heads. It was amazing to think that these stones were knapped (carved) during the Paleolithic Era. An archaeological dig followed, allowing us to discover the Iron Age grave goods buried with the Whitcombe Warrior and the Portesham Woman in the local area. After a picnic lunch, we concluded our visit by learning about the Bronze Age lozenge made from pure gold that is on display in the Museum. We all created a replica using craft materials, and the education leader from the Museum commented on how carefully every child worked to add details to their own work.
