Our Provision is open from 7:45am-3pm, Monday to Friday, 38 weeks of the year. We are part of the Early Years Unit located within Frome Valley First School. Our provision follows school hours including their Inset Days. During the Inset Days, the Preschool will be closed. Please see the Frome Valley First School Term dates to confirm our opening hours for the academic year.
We offer either 3-hour or 6-hour sessions. Families are welcome to use their childcare funding for these sessions. Our daily session times are:

· 9am-12pm
· 12pm-3pm
· 9am-3pm
Breakfast Club
From September 2026, we are opening a Breakfast Club for our Preschool children. This provision is open from 7:45am-9am. This is a chargeable session at a cost of £6 per child. All bookings for Breakfast Club are made by parent/carers via the Arbor App. Payment is made on booking.
Caterpillars and Butterflies
Our provision has two classes: The Caterpillars and The Butterflies.
- The Butterflies are our Pre-school cohort (children in their final year before moving into Reception).
- The Caterpillar class is for children 2 years to 3 years old.
Each class has a curriculum specifically designed for their stage of development using the Develop Matters document to support all 7 areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage. Our fantastic progressive curriculum is designed to build upon children’s knowledge to ensure they are challenged to further develop their knowledge using sustained shared thinking and scaffolding from practitioners to ensure they continue to work towards their Early Learning Goals.
Throughout our curriculum, there are opportunities to access Forest Schools, PE sessions in the school hall, outside provisions, such as Little Robins Gymnastics Club and Relaxed Kids, to name but a few! These provide opportunities for specialists to further develop children’s skills. Every child will be allocated a Key Person who will be responsible for planning and monitoring their children’s learning and development.
Tapestry
Tapestry is an online journal to record and celebrate your child’s learning journey. This online journal creates opportunities to share preschool activities and home experiences with your child’s Key Person, providing further information on your child’s learning and development away from the provision. This creates crucial parent partnerships with Preschool to work towards positive outcomes for every child.
Stay and Play & Little Listeners Sessions
We offer Stay and Play and Little Listener sessions every two weeks, providing opportunities for families to come into the setting to play with their children or read them stories. These sessions are from 2:30pm-3pm.
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
At Frome Valley, we pride ourselves in providing an inclusive environment promoting equality and diversity throughout our provision. We focus on the ‘Unique Child’, where we identify every child has their own individual needs. We ensure our curriculum is accessible to all, with reasonable adjustments made to ensure all children have an equal opportunity. Our team work in partnership with professionals such as Speech and Language Therapists, Health Visitors and Children’s Services to provide a targeted approach for children with Special Educational Needs.
