Our Wessex family of schools

Year 1

Literacy - The Naughty Bus

In Literacy, we have loved exploring our text 'The Naughty Bus' by Jan Oke. We took photos of the Naughty Bus doing naughty things around the school and then used these ideas to write our own version of the story 'The Further Adventures of the Naughty Bus'. We were so excited to share our stories with our parents in drop ins!

Maths - greater than, less than, equal to

In Maths, we have been looking at the vocabulary 'greater than', 'less than' and 'equal to' and the corresponding symbols. We loved the practical nature of using straws and cubes to help us learn these new symbols.

Art - different types of lines

In Art, Year 1 have been exploring control and pressure to create different types of lines. They have been learning to draw different types of lines with a range of materials. They used large paper for their range of lines. The children have also worked outside of the playground drawing lines with chalk.

RE - Will's visit

Year 1 enjoyed a visit from Will this week. Will is the lay minister from the church and he came to talk to us about Christian baptisms/Christenings as part of our RE lesson. He talked about the use of water in a baptism/Christening, about gifts that may be given and also explained some of the words used within a baptism/Christening. The children loved meeting and learning from Will and one child even said 'they wanted to be like Will when they are older!'
